2023 Arts Education Program
Location: Friends School, Boulder, CO
Students collaborated with Street Wise artist Juls Mendoza to brainstorm, design, and bring to life a mural centered around the theme of “Art & Activism.” Throughout the project, students gained hands-on experience in the full mural-making process—from concept development to transferring their design onto a wall on school grounds.
As part of this immersive learning experience, students explored what it means to create artwork for public spaces, considering the social impact and significance of site-specific design. They were also introduced to Procreate, a digital illustration tool, which they used to combine individual ideas into one cohesive group vision.
This project emphasized collaboration, creativity, and communication, giving students the opportunity to work together on a large-scale artistic endeavor with lasting impact.
The community mural was painted directly onto a primed wall in the student commons area.
