David Swartz

About the Artist:

I am a Denver based artist and muralist. My work blends illustrative storytelling with an expressive, colorful, and contemporary approach, making it visually accessible while also carrying deeper emotional and thematic layers. Depicting local and endangered species has always been an important part of my public art practice. Water often appears as a symbolic thread in my work, representing connection—between people, communities, and the natural world. Through my murals, I aim to highlight the deep bonds we share with nature and with each other, reminding viewers that we are all part of a greater whole.

This theme of connection is of particular importance to me as a recovering alcoholic. Addiction is a disease of isolation, with the treatment being actions that create community and deep connections. This life journey has given me a tremendous perspective into the darker side of life. A glimpse into depths of despair and exposure to an honest and wide range of the human experience. I have gained an open mind and heart as a result of working in the recovery community, this has broadened my creative practice and focused my work to serve a platform to share openly and honestly with others. Most importantly, I strive to bring a smile to people’s faces. A spark of color and hope they can take with them to fuel their own creative fire.
