Julie Young

About the Artist:

I am a multidisciplinary artist, performer, and creator based in Fort Collins. I create paintings, murals, textile art, and circus performances that invite moments of contemplation, joy, and wonder. My work explores storytelling, transformation, and the ways humans connect with eachother and the natural world. I move between many creative disciplines: mural painting, live painting, circus arts, clowning, immersive performance, and community art experiences. I see each form of art as a different language for expressing emotion, curiosity, and connection. Painting has always been my first love and earliest form of storytelling.

I grew up on the edge of the cornfields outside of Indianapolis, spending most of my childhood drawing, painting, building puppets, and creating my own forms of entertainment & exploring where my imagination could take me. After high school, I moved to Walt Disney World, where meeting people from around the world expanded my understanding of connection and shared humanity. It was here that I began to really notice where creating new moments & experiences could bring people together.

In 2019, I moved to Hawaii, which deeply shaped my artistic vision and relationship with nature. Exploring forests, oceans, plant life, and ecosystems strengthened my appreciation for the surreal beauty already present on our planet. In 2022 I moved to Colorado to experience life in the mountains and the changing of seasons. Today, nature remains one of my greatest inspirations- from the tropical landscapes of Hawaii to the pine forests and changing seasons in Colorado.

At the heart of my work is a desire to create experiences that feel meaningful, immersive, and a little magical—art that encourages people to slow down, reconnect with wonder, and feel more connected to the world around and within them.
