Working with And Art Space, Alfalfa’s has commissioned local artist, Sam Parker, to bring a new art space to the City of Boulder
BOULDER, Colo. (Sept. 19, 2016) – Alfalfa’s, Boulder’s only locally owned natural and organic products retailer, today announced it will commence work with local Lyons-based artist, Sam Parker, to paint a large mural on the South wall of its parking lot at 1651 Broadway in Boulder. The mural will feature Colorado-based animal totems with an indigenous landscape background, and will not only beautify the Alfalfa’s parking lot, but will bring more art space to Boulder for all to enjoy.
“We’ve partnered with And Art Space, a Boulder-based organization with a mission to bring more public art spaces to Boulder,” said Paul McLean, Chief Operating Officer for Alfalfa’s. “Alfalfa’s has always been an active community member, and supporting local art and bringing more art to our community is just one of the ways we do this.”
Soon after Alfalfa’s re-opened its Boulder store in 2011, the company commissioned a local sculptor to design and build Alfie, the large rooster sculpture at its parking lot entrance. It was made out of old metal farming implements and demonstrated Alfalfa’s continued support of the local community. The addition of vibrant mural to the South side of its parking lot is another way Alfalfa’s can support local artists and give back to the community by beautifying its outdoor space.
And Art Space has facilitated the project with Parker. Their mission is to develop creative partnerships to install more public art throughout the Boulder community.
“We are committed to the advancement of local mural culture,” said Leah Brenner Clack, founder of And Art Space. “We are excited to partner with Alfalfa’s, and to bring life to what was an otherwise empty space. We can all benefit from murals as creative expression in our environment and day-to-day lives.”
Parker has designed the 40 by 6.5 foot mural to feature four native Colorado animal totems with a backdrop of vibrant Colorado landscape. He will begin painting on Monday, Sept. 19 through Wednesday, Sept. 24. Alfalfa’s welcomes community members to come and watch the process, and interact with Parker.
