Tribute to the Mamas Mural
The Montview “Mamas” are a dedicated group within the Parents in Action program at Montview Elementary School. They have played a vital role in shaping school initiatives and amplifying the voices of Montview families over the years. Their unwavering support of the administration has made a profound and lasting impact. In gratitude, the school community came together to honor their contributions with a legacy mural—created just before some of these families return to their home countries.
Guided by Skela, the mothers collaborated to design the mural, identifying symbols that represent the strength and spirit of the Montview community. Among the chosen imagery were butterflies to represent migration, hands to symbolize support and unity, a heart for love, and bracelets depicting the school's core values. Additionally, the Mamas wanted to thank the school staff by including them in the design. Mountains represent Principal Joe Taylor, water represents Asst. Principal Hannah Lacount, and flowers represent the school coordinator, Susan Gershwin. The mural not only reflects their ideas—it also carries their touch, as the mothers took part in painting the piece themselves.
