Victor Escobedo at Montview Elementary School

2024 Arts Education Program Mural

Location: Montview Elementary School, Aurora, CO

Montview Elementary School students joined Street Wise Artist Victor Escobedo to create Artivism (Art + Activism) themed murals on their school campus. Students learned about Victor’s artist journey, how to scale their artwork for public display, and experimented with mark making to create backgrounds with texture. Victor took the feedback from the 5th grade brainstorming sessions to design 3 wooden panels for the 5th graders. The fifth grade student helped Victor paint the murals during their art classes.

Victor pulled the animal imagery from the 5th grade brainstorming with the students. A repeated theme in all the student drawings was animals. A dog, a rooster and a snake are represented in the murals.

"It was an honor to help beautify the school and bring students' concepts to life at such a large scale!" says Victor.

The three mural panels were brought to life in just two weeks through collaborative efforts with small rotating groups—leaving students proud, inspired, and engaged in the creative process!
