Bimmer Torres at Boulder Public Library

2025 Arts Education Program Mural

Location: South facing door of the library’s Native Garden along Boulder Creek Path, Main Library - Boulder Public Library District, 1001 Arapahoe Ave, Boulder, CO 80302

As part of the Experiments in Public Art lecture series, the City of Boulder Office of Arts and Culture partnered with Street Wise Arts to bring dynamic, community-centered programming to Boulder’s youth and wider public. This summer, guest artist Bimmer Torres (@_youngbeam) led a youth mural program at the Main Branch of the Boulder Public Library. Students from across the Boulder area were invited to design and paint a mural on the back door of the library’s Native Garden—visible from the Boulder Creek Path—offering passersby a vibrant glimpse into the collaborative spirit of mural-making.

Drawing inspiration from local flora and fauna, participants worked together to create a colorful mural featuring the Colorado Blue Columbine, accompanied by butterflies, moths, dragonflies, and caterpillars that now enliven the view along the bike path. Throughout the project, students learned how to scale and transfer their designs onto a large wall, while Bimmer shared spray-paint techniques and creative insights that helped them bring their ideas to life.

Following the mural’s completion, participants and community members were invited to a lecture with Bimmer Torres on the transformative power of public art. “Art as Transformation: From Streets to Civic Spaces” explored Bimmer’s journey from graffiti writer to public artist, highlighting the influence of Chicano heritage, graffiti culture, and civic engagement on his evolving practice.
