ARTivism Today: A Multigenerational Reflection on the Growing Movement of Artivists

Covid-19 and America’s reckoning with racism and systemic inequality have spotlighted destabilizing injustice in our society in a way the mainstream can no longer ignore. Nonprofits, corporate America, media, and cultural influencers alike are looking to right wrongs, some taking bold action while others pay lip service to the news of the day.

In the arts and culture world, a growing movement of artists and supporters are leveraging their talents to raise awareness about causes they are passionate about, reclaim their power, and push for change.

Hear from a panel of multigenerational artists and cultural ambassadors to gain insight on where they see themselves in the convergence of art and activism and where they see the next era of ARTivism heading.

Join Street Wise for another installment of our popular panel series as we talk with local artists and activists about the intersection of Art & Activism in 2021 featuring artist Emanuel Martinez, founder of the Chicano Mural Project, Lucha de Luna Martinez and artist and activist, Moe Gram. Moderated by Kalya Santalla.

  • Panelist: Lucha Martinez de Luna | Founder of the Chicano/a Murals of Colorado Project (CMCP) working to protect, promote, and preserve the ongoing legacy of Chicano/a murals within the state of Colorado.

  • Panelist: Emanuel Martinez I Denver-based muralist, painter and sculptor. Founder of The Emanuel Project created to positively impact at-risk youth by providing inspirational and expressive experiences where youth participate in the construction and creation of Murals of Hope with Emanuel Martinez.
