About the Artist

"My name is Gabriel Sanchez, I am 27 years old and I am a realist painter working primarily with oils. I am the son of Cuban parents born in the United States. I graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in drawing and painting in 2018. I work with galleries in Los Angeles and New York. In March 2019 I had my first exhibition alone at the gallery, Lora Schlesinger, in Santa Monica, California. This year I am going to present paintings at Art Expo Chicago, and a portrait group show in New York. I currently live in Boulder, Colorado and reside part of the year in Havana with my wife. My art has been positively enriched with the culture and customs of Cuba.

My paintings recreate moments and situations in life that we might encounter. The purpose of my realism is to attract the audience closer to the subject's message. The figures that I paint carry a history of each being that any person could relate to and understand the conflicts that individuals transmit. My current project is works in dialogue with the Cuban culture. Each painting is a small scene of the events that happen daily."
