Location: 929 Pearl St.

Wall Partner: Conscience Bay Company

Mural Statement

The Uncompahgre Fritillary Butterfly (endangered) only found in the San Juan Mountains. The 15 gradient shadows casting represent recent butterfly extinctions since the early 1800’s. “While extinction of animal species is part of the natural process of evolution, the expansion of the human species has led to significant increases in the extinction rate. Because humans share ecosystems with endangered species, our quality of life and our survival is linked to them. Habitat destruction, climate change, resource depletion and other factors have increased the extinction rate by a factor of 1,000, putting substantial pressure on thousands of the most vulnerable creatures on the planet.” - Milton Kazmeyer
