Street Wise Arts is excited to collaborate with @kgnu to mark the grand opening of KGNU’s new building and celebrate Radio Week. Boulder artist @eileen.k.h is currently painting a new mural at the building entrance. "This mural has been a wonderful opportunity to translate the culture and values of KGNU’s community into imagery that welcomes people into the building," says Eileen. "As a former radio DJ myself, this project has an extra special place in my heart." Eileen has been painting murals since 2012. She immersed herself in the world of muralism during the seven years she spent living in South America. During this time, she participated in street art festivals, muralist brigades, artist collectives, and arts-based non-profits. She currently lives in Boulder and is working towards an MFA in drawing and painting at CU Boulder. While her artwork spans many visual mediums, murals are at the heart of Eileen’s artistic practice. She has painted over 80 murals across three different continents, including local and international mural festivals, educational murals, collaborations with other artists, community-based mural projects and activism. This mural project was made possible by the Boulder Arts Commission Artist Hiring Grant and sponsorship by Holland & Hart. This project kicks off a series of murals planned for 2026 & 2027 at @kgnu. Each mural will tell different conceptual stories in celebration of local community, media, history, and the current and future vision of our collective community. Celebrate the Grand Opening of KGNU's GNU Community Media & Cultural Center and Headquarters and see Eileen's new mural on Friday, May 22 from noon to 7 PM! The event begins with a land acknowledgement and site blessing and continues with vendors, food trucks, studio tours, and live music from The Hazel Miller Collective. Plus, see our exhibition “Ephemera: Lost Murals from the Street Wise Arts Archive” inside the lobby of the new building. 👉️ Visit kgnu.org for more info and to RSVP!
